I have been busy. My application to joint the Chapel Allerton Artists Group has been accepted, we have been on our regular hiking and painting trips to Rosedale and Askrigg, I am exhibiting 2 pictures at Seven Arts (Harrogate Road) have prepared this years Calendar and Christmas cards.
Chapel Allerton Group of Artists
This is something new and exiting for me. The Chapel Allerton Artists Group maintain an active presence in Chapel Allerton participating in the annual arts festival with an art trail, running a linked exhibition at Seven Arts (through October), holding a festive season arts fair, as well as running workshops for collective learning and providing an opportunity to socialise with other artists in the area.
I have put two pictures into the exhibition at Seven Arts which runs til the end of October.
Rosedale – August
There was not a lot of time for painting and sketching – when the weather improved, I was keener on hiking than painting and sketching and when it didn’t the light was generally poor, or the rain was generally pouring. I did manage to get out across on evening and catch the “golden hour” sun on the ex farm buildings where we were staying.
Askrigg – September/October
A much better week for painting, 4/6 days were good for walking and there was decent light so I could take my notebook. 2/6 days were a wipe put because of rain but I had some material I would work up.
I spent a whole afternoon en-plein-air to do this picture across the fields to Newbiggin.
I painted this from source material gathered earlier on the first rained out day
I had my notebook with me as usual
2024 Christmas Card
If you have got this far your reward is a preview of this years Christmas card. We had snow in January 2021 and I did a circuit of Eccup reservoir with my camera.
Brian, some brilliant paintings in your portfolio!! I do have some favourites: Derwent Water; you could almost be there! I was drawn into the picture. Also love: Langdales, Gannets, Lindisfarne Castle and the three Linton paintings. You are telling me you have been busy!
Great work.
Thanks Doug
