Scilly

We fared well in Scilly, the weather was consistently better than the forecasts, most days we’d lose the clouds (enough of them anyway) to have really great sunny afternoons. The wind was strong though, and on one day none of the boats were running to the off islands.

Watercolour sketches

Here are the 10×14 watercolour sketches.

On St Agnes a visit to the Turks Head is mandatory (for pasty). Its then a short walk along the coast into The Cove.

Its a short walk from the Turks Head to the Cove, this is looking back towards St Marys (on the skyline) and the sandbar to Gugh - almost covered by the incoming tide.

The Seven Stones pub above Lower Town on St Martins reopened last year – so after landing its a short walk for refreshments. This is the best view from a pub terrace – possibly anywhere – but definitely on Scilly.

This year I just bought a drink and set up on the terrace. Best view from a pub terrace - possibly anywhere but definitely on Scilly.

A visit to Tresco resulted in a drenching because of the high winds, so I was looking for a sheltered spot for sketching – that meant the east coast but it was still hard to find good spot. I thought this was it…I had to put a rock in the rucksack, which was then dangled from the centre of the easel tripod. Even so still had brushes and pencils being blown off the easel tray and tracking them down in the grass and brambles was a bit of a challenge.

Despite its idyllic look the wind was force 4 when I did this so it was a bit of a struggle from start to finish.

Pen and Wash

Here are the pen and wash 7×5 sketches made when hiking round the islands
